Who? For anyone who needs to communicate in business across cultures and geographies.
Why? Fortunately, most of us do not work in environments where a communication mistake can lead to life-or-death consequences. However, there are entire industries that do. One such example is the aviation industry, specifically air traffic controllers. We borrow their best communication practices to improve global communication in business situations.

We then explain how these best practices can be applied to the most common global business communication situations: face-to-face daily office communication, virtual communication (Zoom, WebEx, Teams, Google Meet, etc.), and digital communication (email, social media).

What? A combination of best practice, such as:

    • The 7Cs Pyramid
    • Minto Pyramid Logic
    • The Power of Three
    • Fast, Frame, Line & Loop Logic Structure
    • Communication Compass
    • Active Listening Spiral

RedBikeHRD incorporates all three Erin Meyer tools, the Country Mapping Tool, the Personal Profile Tool and the Team Mapping Tool, into various cross-cultural and global communication programs.

Meyer wrote her first book, the international-bestselling The Culture Map: Breaking Through the Invisible Boundaries of Global Business in 2014. The book represents her collective research data from over thirty different countries and provides a framework for evaluating cultures, along with offering strategies for improving international business success.

She has identified eight scales, each of which is described as a continuum in which the two ends are diametric opposites:

Communicating – Are people low-context or high-context communicators?

Evaluating – When giving negative feedback, do people give it directly or prefer being discreet?

Leading – Are people in groups egalitarian or do they prefer hierarchy?

Deciding – Do people make decisions via consensus or top-down?

Trusting – Do people base trust on how well they know each other or how well they work together?

Disagreeing – Do people address disagreements directly or do they prefer to avoid confrontations?

Scheduling – Do people perceive time as absolute linear points or consider it a flexible range?

Persuading – Do people like specific cases and examples or prefer detailed, holistic explanations?

Creativity and innovation are almost impossible to teach or train. Rather they collectively tend to be the result of organizational willingness to encourage disruption, embrace risk and accept failure, thereby fostering a corporate culture that allows and enables an employee mindset that breaks free of comfort zones and pursues the unknown.

This type of training is best done in a workshop or charrette format that addresses specific challenges with the introduction of frameworks and tools that help guide the activities and output of the session.
